The Case for Clothes That Fit

I want you to feel good in your body, I want you to feel comfortable in your skin, and I am not going to lie, the body acceptance and body confidence journey takes time.

But there is one easy step you can take on a daily basis to honor your body and feel good in your skin, and it is all about what’s in your closet.

Now I don’t mean how many bags or shoes or designer duds that you have, what I am talking about are the clothes you wear on the daily, and how they fit.

Wearing clothes that fit is such a key aspect of accepting and honoring your body. That’s right, clothing is a big piece of the puzzle. And you might be like, why? Why do the clothes I wear matter, and let me tell you why!

Wearing clothes that fit and that you like means you’re not giving power, energy, and attention to clothing that might not fit or how it feels on your body.

Now I spent many years squeezing into clothing that was a size I coveted, or a size I didn’t want to let go of, but that was painful to wear. Jeans that barely zipped, dresses that clung to me in all the ways I didn’t like, and I wore them because they were a size I wanted to be or thought was a size that society deemed as appropriate.

What I found was that wearing clothes that fit, that were actually my size left me feeling more confident and comfortable. I liked my outfits! I wasn’t hiding in my clothes or obsessing because they didn’t fit my body.

So here are some clothing tips:

  1. Stop caring about what the tag says and focus on how it feels on your body. Is it two sizes bigger than what you normally wear? If that’s a yes but you feel comfortable and confident and so sexy in it, then who cares what the size is!!

  2. Buy clothes that are a style you like. You don’t need to hide your body in oversized things. If you like the crop top and the style with a pair of light wash jeans, then buy it!

  3. Get rid of any clothes in your closet that don't fit, or get them out of sight. Holding onto and staring at those clothes gives them power and tells you that you need to change your body to fit back into them, you don’t need to do that! Your body is worthy of clothes that fit and make you feel good!
